Some Frequently Asked Questions about the GACE…

What is the GACE?

The GACE ESOL (619) Assessment is a part of teaching licensure in Georgia. GACE scores are used to complete a state application for teacher certification. The exam ensures that the examinee has the skills and knowledge necessary to become an ESOL educator in Georgia public schools.

What is on the GACE?

You will answer approximately thirty-two questions (40 percent of Test I) on language, approximately twenty-four questions (30 percent of Test I) on culture, and approximately twenty-four questions (30 percent of Test I) on professionalism. Test II will consist completely of questions about planning, implementing, and managing classroom instruction and assessment.

How is the GACE scored?

On the GACE, the number of correctly answered questions are used to create your scaled score. Scores are scaled to a number in the range 100 – 300, a passing score being 250. The score shows your performance on the test as a whole and is scaled to allow comparison across various versions of the tests. There is no penalty for guessing on the GACE, so be sure to eliminate answer choices and answer every question. If you still do not know the answer, guess; you may get it right! Keep in mind that some multiple-choice questions are experimental questions for the purpose of the GACE test makers and will not count toward your overall score. However, since those questions are not indicated on the test, you must respond to every question.

How is the GACE administered?

The GACE is a computer-administered test. The GACE website allows you to take practice tests and tutorials to acclimate yourself to the computerized format. The GACE is available at testing centers across the nation.
